Tatra Trucks and Siemens join forces on the path to digital transformation of production

In recent years, Tatra Trucks has focused intensely on modernizing its manufacturing technologies. The goal is to significantly increase production volume, maintain a leading position in the industry, and strengthen its role as a leader in delivering vehicles tailored to specific customer requirements. A key prerequisite for achieving these goals is the optimization of manufacturing processes through digitalization.

Some of Tatra’s current manufacturing processes and technologies are reaching their limits, and digitalization opens the door to realizing the company's ambitious plans. For this reason, Tatra has begun implementing Siemens' Teamcenter platform, which will enable process synchronization and efficient data management—from business communication and development to vehicle production, spare parts catalogs, and both warranty and post-warranty services.

As part of the digital transformation, Tatra has started deploying the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system Teamcenter to support product development and management, along with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for financial and manufacturing processes. These two systems will become the cornerstone of digitalization, aiming to unify previously fragmented systems, streamline processes, and enable faster and more efficient collaboration across departments. The delivery also includes the Mendix low-code platform, which allows rapid development of applications that work with data from information systems such as PLM, ERP, CRM, and others.

"The implementation of Siemens' Teamcenter system marks a major technological advancement for Tatra, which began with the adoption of 3D software NX alongside Teamcenter in the technical department in 2019. Now, the system is being extended company-wide. PLM Teamcenter will enable more efficient responses to individual customer demands, faster order processing, more flexible development, improved manufacturing planning, and timely deliveries at the required quality level," said Jakub Pončík, Technical Director of Tatra Trucks.

"The decision to implement the fully developed PLM Teamcenter solution at Tatra Trucks highlights its crucial role in optimizing the company's digital processes. Teamcenter allows for effective use of digital twins and artificial intelligence to drive innovation in both products and production processes, thereby supporting long-term competitiveness. We are pleased that Tatra chose our solution and look forward to our partnership," said René Zahradník, Director of Siemens Digital Industries Software Czech Republic.

The modern Teamcenter software solution integrates all key PLM processes into a single database. All customer requirements will be managed within the system in real time through program and project management, including process quality across the entire company. All changes and requirements will be recorded and managed through change management. The PLM system will also enable the creation and management of complete bills of materials, with ERP integration ensuring automatic bidirectional data exchange between the two systems.

Teamcenter will become a key pillar of digitalization, allowing Tatra to enhance product development and innovation, prepare production more effectively, and improve information sharing between manufacturing, service, and maintenance. Digitalization will also help the company better address sustainability challenges, reduce its carbon footprint, and meet regulatory requirements. One of the major topics is energy savings, which has a direct impact on the company’s carbon emissions.

Another major benefit of digitalization is a significant reduction in administrative workload, allowing employees to work with cutting-edge systems that are among the best in the world. Digitalization will also help eliminate repetitive, low-value tasks, freeing up employees' time for creative work that benefits both the company and the workers themselves.
